Mike Cannon-Brookes had SARS? or Why referer logs are fun

You should check your referer logs if you run a website or a blog. Your blog software DOES support referer logging doesn't it? /images/emoticons/mozilla_laughing.gif blojsom does, but I digress.

Well, I checked mine this AM and saw that our old pal Mike Cannon-Brookes, a true rebelutionary is getting back into the swing of the blogging thing with a brand new blog.

His suspected SARS episode may not be over however as he seems to be running MovableType. This could all be an elaborate hoax by the guys who brought you JIRA. Time will tell!

blojsom on nagoya.apache.org

Andy Oliver of the POI project is using blojsom for the project's news site.

To put things in Apache-esque terms, that's +1 for blojsom /images/emoticons/mozilla_wink.gif

blojsom 1.7.1 available

I went ahead and released blojsom 1.7.1. I fixed the UTF-8 handling throughout the API. Thanks to Stephan Modry for pointing the issue out to me this morning.

Excellent ... excellent Smithers!

blojsom and w.bloggar

Marcelo, developer of w.bloggar sent me an e-mail this AM asking if I wanted to add blojsom to the list of supported tools. It shouldn't be a problem to provide him with the correct information for the .INI file he'd need to modify. Funny thing is, all my work is under OSX at home. I've given up Windows completely 'cept for Windows at work and that's under VMWare and strictly for the use of Outlook. Any other work is under UNIX. So, I tried w.bloggar out under Windows to see if it could talk to my blog. Lo and behold, it worked. But then I already knew it would /images/emoticons/mozilla_wink.gif Now, back to your regularly scheduled blogging!

The morning radio "parasite"

Whether you listen to talk shows, National Public Radio, CDs, or just flip through radio stations in your morning commute, you may or may not be aware of this "parasite" living on the airwaves. It's your local dance/teen pop/rap radio station.

And why is this?

Because no one has told these idiots that YOU DO NOT NEED THE FSCKING REVERB ON YOUR MICROPHONES SET TO 10! Jackasses!

Commons-Logging 1.0.3 released

Announcement over hm'yah.

I guess I need to update this library in blojsom. I'm happy to do the update to as it's not one of their "2.4-alpha-5 type releases". I mean, I'm not going to argue with anyone's particular versioning scheme, but christ, I'm just a little turned off when I see something like that.

blojsom 1.7 available or "You are in a maze of weblogs, all alike. Think blojsom, and get out!"

Run, don't walk to your nearest SourceForge download page for blojsom and pickup the latest version. Of interest in this release:
  • Changed the BlojsomPlugin.process() method to also accept the HttpServletResponse to allow for plugins to manipulate things like cookies
  • Referer plugin has been re-written to allow tracking and totaling by flavor, as well as only showing today's referer's. And we know how much fun that can be given the recent FBI referer scandal /images/emoticons/mozilla_laughing.gif
  • New Calendar plugin that renders a visual calendar into your blog, hyperlinking dates that have entries
  • Calendar navigation code has moved to the new Calendar Filter plugin. If you want to continue to have calendar url navigation on your blog, please be sure to add this plugin to the start of one of your flavor-based plugin chains
  • Added the Send Email plugin that allows other plugins to send email messages
  • Comment and Trackback plugin will now e-mail comments and trackbacks (if enabled) to the blog owner
I'm not going to give the whole changelog, you can check it out yourself.

Mark has added a second theme called "SecondWave". I'm hoping to get the "Green Lantern" style sheet from Andres.

Oh, and if you want to talk flexibility, you might want to check out Chris' weblog over at Sixlegs. Chris wrote a FreeMarker dispatcher, some accompanying templates, and a FreeMarker Calendar plugin. So, that means you really have some flexibility in terms of your presentation. JSP, Velocity, and now FreeMarker. /images/emoticons/mozilla_wink.gif

Enjoy!

A new blojsom motto!

Motto ... a slogan if you will. In chatting with a colleague and a quick browse of a story from The Register, we have ourselves a new motto, a battlecry, well ... something at least.
You are in a maze of weblogs, all alike. Think blojsom, and get out!

I like it /images/emoticons/mozilla_laughing.gif
