Evil ... par-tic-u-lar-ly evil!

<dr-evil>All I ask for is for frickin' blog software with frickin' laser beams. Is that so hard people?! Now ... what do we have?</dr-evil>

Well, no laser beams ...yet, but I added a category for my "evil experiments". It'll be a place for me to try out some of the experimental plugins and other stuff in the blojsom development world. Right now I've got entries using the WikiPlugin (experimental) and the TextilePlugin (in blojsom 1.9) in there.

This is a sample of what our TextilePlugin can do

h2. This is a title h3. This is a subhead This is some text of dubious character. Isn't the use of "quotes" just lazy writing -- and theft of 'intellectual property' besides? I think the time has come to see a block quote. bq. This is a block quote. I'll admit it's not the most exciting block quote ever devised. Well, that went well. How about we insert an old-fashioned hypertext link? Will the quote marks in the tags get messed up? No! "This is a link (optional title)":http://www.textism.com # Librarians rule # Yes they do # But you knew that Some more text of dubious character. Here is a noisome string of CAPITAL letters. Here is something we want to _emphasize_. That was a linebreak. And something to indicate *strength*. Of course I could use my own HTML tags if I felt like it. h3. Coding This is some code, "isn't it". Watch those quote marks! Now for some preformatted text:

$text = str_replace("

%::%

","",$text); $text = str_replace("%::%

This isn't code. So you see, my friends: * The time is now * The time is not later * The time is not yesterday * We must act

blojsom 1.9 available

It's been awhile since our last release, but I think we made a number of additions/changes/improvements that warranted a bit of testing. You can all view the changelog at http://blojsom.sf.net/changelog.html.

Thanks to everyone who has been using blojsom and to those who have contributed to its development. In February of 2003, blojsom wasn't a blip on the blog software radar screen. In June of 2003, we've got over 1200 downloads.

Mark has also been hard at work on blojsim 1.0, the instant messenger add-on to blojsom. blojsim 1.0 will introduce "conversational IM" to blog. Think of things like, "blog, please give me a list of categories I can post to." or "blog, please start a blog entry for me." It's wicked stuff.

There will be some very interesting blojsom developments to share in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

Gecko and the Bean

There were many great pairings: Ozzie and Harriet, Bonnie and Clyde, Lucy and Ricki, peanut butter and jelly, and now Gecko and the Bean. I definitely like what he's done with the graphic image in the calendar.

blojsom and blojsim have finally jumped the shark?

Well, looks like both blojsom and blojsim got a quick linkto on Dave Winer's blog. Have we jumped the shark? Hell no!

I had left some comments on Dave Winer's blog essay, Dave had commented in his essay, "Notification via email or IM. Some weblog software can automatically notify editors or community members if new posts, pictures, media objects, articles, or comments have been posted. To date no software can do this over instant messaging, although it would be relatively easy to implement." Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe we were the first to add IM support to blog software.

IM is one of the most interesting ways to interact with your blog. Mark is readying the release of blojsim 1.0 for later this week. Just think how interesting things will be when you can do things with your blog via IM like:
"Blog, please give me a list of blog categories I can post to."
(list of categories)
"Blog, please start an entry in my java category."
(type your entry)
"Blog, please post this entry to my blog now."
<2001>"I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that."</2001>
DOH! Oh yes, but conversational IM support in blojsim is going to rock the casbah.

What makes a weblog a weblog?

Dave Winer has posted an essay, "What makes a weblog a weblog?".

For reference, back in the beginning of May, Diego Doval posted "a review of blogging APIs". Also for reference, there was Matthew Thomas' "The Ultimate Weblogging system, outlined".

All of these combined will help to establish the technical and non-technical aspects of what makes a weblog a weblog.

Just some blojsom happy this evening

I've gotten 3 e-mails today from different folks who are using blojsom. They had very kind words to say about the software. That makes me especially happy since I'm fighting off a killer migraine that is probably a result of a little cold that started today.

However ... the final programming touches on blojsom 1.9 continue /images/emoticons/mozilla_wink.gif

Another blog slogan t-shirt

"You have the right to remain silent." "Anything you say can, and will, be blogged against you."

It's all about the wiki plugin baby!

P.Diddy said it was "All About The Benjamins". Hell no beotches! It's all about the wiki plugin. Damned if I don't post about my experiments with a wiki plugin for blojsom and so has Mr. Roller in his own way, but I check raelity.org and damned if Rael hasn't thrown us all a wicked monkey bitch and done the wikieditish plugin.

Wikis to take over the world. Film at 11!

Experimenting with a blojsom Wiki plugin (using Radeox)

Well, how could I resist? In less than 5 minutes, I had the WikiPlugin finished using Radeox. Oh, it's a stupid plugin in that it's just looking for .wiki entries and passing them through the RenderEngine. But it worked. At least the following post rendered correctly. Maybe it'll make its way into blojsom 2.0.

Is "permalink" the next "google"?

I was contemplating earlier whether or not "permalink" will become a verb like "google"? I can think of its use in places where you'd say you blog something like, "I'm going to permalink that." or "I'm permalinking this." Maybe this discussion has already been settled and I'm sooooooooooooo last week in my thinking.

TextilePlugin available for blojsom

Mark just checked in our TextilePlugin into CVS. This is amazingly cool. It will certainly simplify posting of rich HTML in blog entries.

Way to go Mark!

It's all about following through...

...when adding new features to software.

It starts out with an idea like, "Hey Mark, we should add an RSD flavor in blojsom 1.9 to support services like AudBlog." This began a snowballing set of events.
  • Got blojsom working with an RSD template on this blog to allow me to post via AudBlog.
  • Added the line rsd=rsd.vm, text/xml to the flavor.properties configuration file and checked the file back into CVS.
  • Updated the changelog stating that an "RSD flavor was added" and checked the file back into CVS.
  • Never added the RSD Velocity and JSP templates to CVS.
Wait, what was that last one? Oh, that's right folks. You read it correctly. I got blojsom working with an RSD flavor on my blog, added all the configuration needed to use the RSD flavor in the forthcoming blojsom 1.9, and documented it, but I never actually wrote or added the RSD templates to CVS.

Wow ... just wow.

And yes, I just committed those templates to CVS /images/emoticons/mozilla_laughing.gif
