Well, this was in December 2004, but better late than never.

The family went to The Castle on the Hudson to dine at the Equus Restaurant for my sister's 25th birthday.

Location: Tarrytown, NY. Roughly 30 minutes from New York City.

Parking: Valet. And don't think twice about it.

Price: If you're not in the mood to spend at least $100/person, this restaurant isn't for you. The dinner menu is a $71 fixed price menu. Add on a cocktail or two and ... well ... it adds up

Liquor/Wine: They do have Cristal on their wine and champagne menu, which will set you back a cool $300 or so. But hey, it's there! Also, the cheapest bottle of wine will probably set you back about $50. Besides that I'm sure they've got "the goods" you're looking for.

Dining Area: There are basically two rooms, one in by the carved stone fireplace and one set off to the side with windows to overlook the Hudson river. If you're headed there in the winter time, request the room in by the fireplace. You won't see anything out the windows since it gets dark so early so you might as well be warm and cozy.

Food: Excellent. Check out a sample dinner menu. I had the following:

• Salad: Petite Local Harvested Red and Green Romaine Maytag Blue Cheese Dressing,Sliced Ruby Red Grapes and Roasted Walnuts
• Appetizer: Roasted Rack of Rabbit
• Entree: Hazelnut Crusted Rack of Venison, Butternut Squash Purée, Candied Turnips, and Sautéed Bitter Greens witha Cranberry Cabernet Reduction Sauce
• Dessert: Fall Apple Sampler, Apple Crème Brûlée, Lady Apple Filo Purse, and Green Apple Sorbet

Although, my only gripe with the food was the salad, where a pear was substituted instead of grapes, didn't really have any pear. That was unfortunate.

All in all, quite a good dinner.
