blojsom/Jetty 6/Apache Derby

Claudio Miranda points us to instructions on using blojsom 3 with Jetty and Apache Derby.

This page describes the setup of blojsom 3 using Jetty 6 as the application server and Apache Derby Embedded as the database engine.
The use of Apache Derby Embedded, is of use when there is no need or cannot use a networked SQL server.

iPodResQ

I just got my previously sad iPod back from iPodResQ. Awesome turnaround time. I had placed my service order on Tuesday of this week and had the iPod back Friday morning. I would definitely recommend this service if you've got iPod issues and your iPod is out of warranty or Applecare.

blojsom, Firefox 2, and Microsummaries

Just in case no one else has thought of it...

Microsummaries for Blojsom!

0. Install the Blojsom addon bundle.

1. Create a velocity template: microsummary.vm, and put this in it:
Latest: $BLOJSOM_PLUGIN_LIST_TOOL.get($BLOJSOM_ENTRIES,
0).getEscapedTitle()

Not actually sure about the syntax, but it returns what's expected,
so, I'm living with it.

2. Create a new flavor: microsummary, text/plain and associate
microsummary.vm with it.

3. Create a plugin chain (perhaps conditional get is not good?) for
the new microsummary flavour. This is the chain I'm using right now:
conditional-get, meta, limiter, nofollow, rss-enclosure, list-tool

4. In the <head> section of your blog's HTML template add something
like this:
<link rel="microsummary" href="$BLOJSOM_BLOG.getBlogURL()?
flavor=microsummary"/>

Et voila. When you bookmark your blog in Firefox, you get a dropdown
box for the name, and you can choose the latest headline as the live
bookmark summary. Another 0-day Blojsom result /images/emoticons/mozilla_laughing.gif

Scary! And Firefox 2.0 isn't due until tomorrow. Oh ... wait ...

Sad iPod

On the airplane to Las Vegas, I turned on my iPod, and after many seconds of waiting for startup, the iPod displayed the sad iPod icon.

I had dropped it on the carpet before leaving, but didn't think anything of it. Off to the Apple store later to get it repaired. Thank goodness for the extended Applecare on the iPod.

Ugggggggggggggggggggggh.

Update: One person at the Apple store said the iPod is basically b0rk3d. And it turns out the Applecare had run out just a few months ago. There are of course non-Apple repair shops that'll take the iPod for around $150. "Why bother?" is the question I'm asking myself right now.

Vegas

To continue the party that is being 30, I'm off to Las Vegas in a few days. In no particular order, places I'll be:

The Joël Robuchon dinner deserves special attention as I'm going there for the sixteen (yes, that 16) course tasting menu. Two words: bone marrow.

If there's one way to do Vegas, I believe this is it.

"Follow Me Around"

Last week I got the DVD of "Follow Me Around" from Mack Dawg Productions.

Short review: 4 out of 5 stars. Too short (60-70 mins?).
Long review: Full-on, hardcode, triple-X snowboarding p0rn at its finest. Backcountry, parks, in-town ... these guys throw it down 24/7.

It's one of the few things helping me to bride the gap between fall and winter and I'm anxiously awaiting the first snowfall here in the Northeast.

Surprise

There were 3 great things about a surprise birthday party on Friday night.

  • Ain't no birthday party like a 30th birthday party, 'cause a 30th birthday party don't stop
  • It was the first surprise party that someone's thrown for me
  • Artisanal Cheese

You really know you're among family and friends when you get a box of 3 of the stinkiest cheeses and no one says a word about the stench coming from the area of the presents. And when you open the cheeses everyone is all, "Thank goodness!"
