Syndication Feed Import plugin

In a post to our mailing list this morning, a user asked about migrating to blojsom from another blog software package. So, one of the new plugins for blojsom 2.26 is the syndication feed import plugin. It uses the ROME library. Reading syndication feeds really was as easy as this tutorial on reading a syndication feed. I've tried importing my RSS 2.0, RDF 1.0, and Atom 0.3 feeds without a hitch. I'd only suggest using the feed validator to validate your feed before importing your entries.

Good work on the ROME library. Works as advertised.

blojsom and XStream: Reloaded

Awhile back I looked at the possibility of using XStream in blojsom. It was focused on the back-end wherein blog entries and responses (comments/trackbacks/pingbacks) would be serialized and de-serialized as XML using XStream.

If you were running against the current version of blojsom in CVS and wanted to try it out yourself, you could download the blojsom/XStream files. To install, just 1) unpack that .ZIP in the addon\core\src\org\blojsom directory; 2) compile the add-ons; 3) copy the xstream-1.0.2.jar file into your /WEB-INF/lib directory and 4) change the following line in /WEB-INF/blojsom.properties, blojsom-fetcher=org.blojsom.fetcher.xstream.XStreamFetcher. That's it.

As I said in the other entry, "Although not a deviation from using the filesystem as the content database, it's another format for the entries themselves ... and it worked." Also, all of the plugins work. No changes required. It's another confidence booster of sorts should I start (or maybe complete) work on an implementation of a fetcher for blojsom that goes against something like ... oh, I don't know ... a database.

3 Vodka

I get a message from Mark last night that he's sippin' on 3 Vodka.

This is the result of a remarkable journey. A search for perfection, character and natural balance. A quest that lead to 3. Unmistakably smooth, 3 has a character like no vodka ever made. 3 is distilled its own way, using a proprietary and time-intensive method. It marks the first time in history that soy has ever been distilled. Distilled from a delicate combination of specially selected components of the soy plant, soy isolates; the purest elements of the plant. It is the natural essence of soy that lends 3 its signature smoothness. All things in life seek balance. 3 is what happens when vodka finds it.

It's yet another vodka to add to the growing selection at home. Presently there about 12 different vodkas at home. I try not to let the available selection dip below 8 or 9. If nothing else, I've got another codename for the next version of blojsom after this next release.

Amazstalking

Dan on Amazstalking:

So Aimee has an Amazon wishlist. I don't know why, but tonight I realized that I absolutely, utterly needed to be able to syndicate her Wishlist as an RSS feed... God help me.

Mostly I think this was because I thought it was an amusing idea, wondered if it existed, found such a service from 2003, and then discovered it was broken. God damnit, this should be easy, so why doesn't it work?!

It's like cyberstalking someone else's Amazon.com wishlist ... only, you get an RSS feed out of it /images/emoticons/mozilla_laughing.gif

Enjoy!
