Source postback from Apple to blojsom (pt. 2)

Now that I've had a chance to check out the source that Apple sent me, here are some initial observations.

  1. Their code lives under the com.apple.blojsom package. Nice!
  2. As far as changes to the core blojsom API, i.e. code living under the org.blojsom.* package (excluding plugins and extensions), from what I can tell, there were 6 lines of code changed (4 additions, 2 if statement changes). Any substantial development was done in the plugins. Maybe you didn't really take notice of the fact that my development has been in the plugins with almost no changes to the core API. I'm accepting this as initial validation that we've got a decent approach for allowing anyone to add functionality to blojsom.
  3. 8 plugins. The ones that I'll focus in on are their inline editing plugin and the localizer plugin.
  4. I need to check out the included template to adapt that for the theme switcher plugin.

There is one real mindbender for a lot of this ... for me at least. As they incorporate changes from the blojsom codebase, eventually those additions and enhancements will make their way into a Weblog Server update. Eventually some administrator is going to have to click on that blue Apple in the top-left portion of their screen and click Software Update. The magical internet pixies will then deliver the update and place it in the right place.

Source postback from Apple to blojsom (pt. 1)

I am now in possession of the first sourcecode postback from Apple to blojsom. If you're just joining us, in June 2004, Apple announced details of the next version of OS X Server, codenamed "Tiger".

Weblog Server is fully compatible with Safari RSS in Mac OS X Tiger and makes publishing a weblog as simple as checking a box in Server Admin preferences. Weblog Server is based on the popular open source project ‘Blojsom’ and is fully integrated into Tiger Server with an easy-to-use interface, Kerberos authentication support and LDAP integration. Weblog Server provides users with calendar-based navigation and customizable themes and users can post entries using the built in Web-based functionality or with weblog clients that support XML-RPC or the Atom API.

Now that you're up to speed, stay tuned. It should be a fun evening.

Not that this would be any incentive for you to check out blojsom, but if you're looking for an enterprise class Java-based weblog software package, blojsom may be for you. In addition to the super coolio plugins, event/listener API, XML-RPC and Atom API support, multi-user and multi-blog capability, and themes (not an exhaustive list hm'yah), we've also got some sexy gear.

Update: By source postback, I mean the additions and changes to the blojsom codebase that Apple has made for their Weblog Server product.
