Johnnie Walker Green Label
A bottle of Green Label shall soon grace the hallowed shelves of the liquor cabinet at home to join its brethren, Red, Black, Gold, and Blue. Yes, there is a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label in there. The best part about owning Blue Label has to be 1) each bottle is individually numbered and 2) it comes in a velvet-lined box.Johnnie Walker, the world's best selling brand of Scotch Whisky today launched Johnnie Walker Green Label(TM) in the United States. Joining the portfolio of Red Label(TM), Black Label(TM), Gold Label(TM) and Blue Label(TM), Johnnie Walker Green Label is only the fifth new label launched by Johnnie Walker in 184 years and is one of the first pure malt whiskies to be distributed in the United States.

Thanksgiving Table Setting
Sunday, Rainy Sunday
If rain is your thing, then it's a glorious day here in NY. If rain isn't your thing, then it's a dreary and stereotypical Sunday.
It's been raining since I got up and it doesn't look like it's going to let up until the evening. Oh well, the sun is always shining somewhere.

- Added getBlogLocale() and getBlogAdministrationLocale methods to Blog class.

- Added blojsom-installed-locales parameter to blojsom.properties. This setting is a comma-separated list of the installed locales used to localize the administration console. If not present or blank, this setting defaults to en_US.
- Added blog-administration-locale to blog.properties. This setting is used to indicate the localization setting for a blog when viewing the administration console. If not present or blank, this setting defaults to en_US.
- Implemented save and delete methods on FileBackedBlogCategory.
- Updated XML-RPC handlers and the Atom API handler to use titles of blog entries as the permalink name. If the title is not present, a GUID is generated.
- Patched XML-RPC library to correctly handle UTF-8 for remote editing via XML-RPC.
- Added German, Korean, and Swedish localizations for the web administration interface.
- Updated RSS Enclosure plugin to explicitly add the following mime type mappings.
- audio/x-mpeg mp1 mp2 mp3 mpa mpega

- Fixed double encoding in Entries Administration plugin and Trackback Auto-Discovery plugin.
- Updated Entries Administration plugin to use the title of the post as the entry name instead of the cryptic auto-generated ID scheme previously used. You can still override the entry name using the "Proposed name" field when adding a new blog entry.
- Updated Entries Administration plugin and Bookmarklet plugin to use titles of blog entries as the permalink name. If the title is not present, a GUID is generated.
- Updated Moblog plugin to use subject of e-mails as the permalink name. If the subject is not present, a GUID is generated.
- Updated Properties Administration plugin to allow user to choose among installed languages for localization of the administration console.
- Improved page for editing blog entries to display select list for language and country codes available on the current installation. NOTE: These are Java Virtual Machine (JVM)-specific and may differ between JVMs.
- Added auto-discovery link for Atom feed.

Keeping the users happy
It's also nice to see the comment and trackback moderation plugins are working out.Special thanks to "Santa blojsom", David Czarnecki for keeping blojsom up-to-date with the latest and greatest features. I am working with several blog engines right now, and blojsom is exemplary in so many ways in terms of ease of maintenance and customization—it's totally kick-ass.

Table Setting
If you ever dine at "The House", you'll notice the following:
- A separate glass for water and wine.
- A unique place setting. Place settings change per dinner not per individual. You'll never see the same setting twice.
- A personal set of salt and pepper shakers. Generally speaking, the food is prepared to stand on its own.

OS X DNS lookup issues
I've been having DNS lookup issues like some other OS X users. Basically, the first time I'd hit certain sites, the DNS lookup would fail. The next time I'd try to hit the site, the DNS lookup wouldn't fail and the site would load. This was extremely frustrating. I can't say when it started. Maybe it was around the update to 10.3.6, maybe it was sooner.
However, explicitly adding the name servers for my ISP into the Airport Extreme settings in addition to the name servers setting in System Preferences | Network seems to have made the issue go bye-bye.
Here's hoping the forthcoming 10.3.7 fixes this issue once and for all.

blojsom localization effort update

blojsom localization effort
The blojsom localization effort has begun. I've already got people signed up for German and Korean. Want to be next?
Adding new languages to blojsom is straightforward. Once the web adminstration UI resource bundle is translated into another language, you add it to the blojsom installation, tell blojsom it's available, and each blog can choose from the installed localizations.
In case you missed the posts, we do pretty well in the internationalization department. Even with XML-RPC

Snow? Bring it on!
Here in Upstate NY, at times, we get a lot of snow. If you own any appreciable amount of driveway and do not own a truck with plow or have made nice nice with a plow company, you have a few choices.
- Buy a snow shovel and you end up bemoaning and begrudging mother nature after every snowfall. It doesn't matter if it's light or heavy snow. You're not going to want to be out there at 6 AM listening to the sound of metal or plastic scraping against your driveway. Not to mention the toll it takes on your back.
- Buy a snow blower. Buy a big ass snowblower!
BEHOLD! (Click image to see its full glory)
That's the snowblower that's now sitting in the garage. It can throw snow like a sonofabitch. Its gnarled blades will tear through icy deposits like T-Rex tore through the tender flesh of its kill. It's got a light to bring a little electric sunshine for those early morning or late night snow romping sessions.
... and its equipped with handwarmers! HANDWARMERS!

ICANN't believe their moronic policy
Fortunately, GoDaddy offers domain transfer locking. I've registered all my domains with GoDaddy and I'd swear by them. They have the best prices for domain registration and they're extremely pro-active with regards to letting you know when your domains are going to expire. They send you e-mails at 90, 60, 30, 15, and 5 days (if I remember correctly) before your domain is up for expiration. They also hold it locked for you for a period of time after its expired so that if you do miss one of those e-mails, you can still call them up and get your domain. via Dave via Jason. Update: OK, so maybe it's not that bad. But still, the part about the no means yes above is troubling. Either way, my domains are locked and locked they shall stay.Domain transfer requests will be automatically approved in five days unless they are explicitly denied by the account owner. This is a change from current procedure, in which a domain's ownership and nameservers remain unchanged if there is no response to a transfer request. This could mean trouble for domain owners who don't closely manage their records. Domains with incorrect e-mail addresses and outdated administrative contact information are at particular risk, as the domain's WHOIS database information will be used to inform domain owners of transfer requests. A non-response becomes the equivalent of answering "yes" to a transfer request, according to the ICANN policy change.

blojsom in Bulgaria
A week ago I sent one of our new blojsom t-shirts to Rostislav Hristov of Asual. He designed the new default theme for blojsom and the Vampire theme. That's a trip. Enjoy the shirt ... it was the least I could do

Fix for Apache XML-RPC library to handle international characters
Unfortunately the current release (1.2-b1) of the Apache XML-RPC library has some issues with handling international characters on the way in and on the way out. In short, reading and writing international characters is b0rk3d. I've patched the library for use with blojsom and if you click this link, you'll see it works just fine. I guess I can't prove I wrote that entry using the fantabulous ecto, but you'll have to take my word for it.
The patched version makes the following modifications.
- UTF-8 is the global default.
- Reading is done using an InputStreamReader using UTF-8.
- XmlWriter uses UTF-8 and handles international characters properly.
You can download the patched version here.

Is bigger better?
Source postback from Apple to blojsom (pt. 2)
- Their code lives under the com.apple.blojsom package. Nice!
- As far as changes to the core blojsom API, i.e. code living under the org.blojsom.* package (excluding plugins and extensions), from what I can tell, there were 6 lines of code changed (4 additions, 2 if statement changes). Any substantial development was done in the plugins. Maybe you didn't really take notice of the fact that my development has been in the plugins with almost no changes to the core API. I'm accepting this as initial validation that we've got a decent approach for allowing anyone to add functionality to blojsom.
- 8 plugins. The ones that I'll focus in on are their inline editing plugin and the localizer plugin.
- I need to check out the included template to adapt that for the theme switcher plugin.

Source postback from Apple to blojsom (pt. 1)
Now that you're up to speed, stay tuned. It should be a fun evening. Not that this would be any incentive for you to check out blojsom, but if you're looking for an enterprise class Java-based weblog software package, blojsom may be for you. In addition to the super coolio plugins, event/listener API, XML-RPC and Atom API support, multi-user and multi-blog capability, and themes (not an exhaustive list hm'yah), we've also got some sexy gear. Update: By source postback, I mean the additions and changes to the blojsom codebase that Apple has made for their Weblog Server product.Weblog Server is fully compatible with Safari RSS in Mac OS X Tiger and makes publishing a weblog as simple as checking a box in Server Admin preferences. Weblog Server is based on the popular open source project ‘Blojsom’ and is fully integrated into Tiger Server with an easy-to-use interface, Kerberos authentication support and LDAP integration. Weblog Server provides users with calendar-based navigation and customizable themes and users can post entries using the built in Web-based functionality or with weblog clients that support XML-RPC or the Atom API.

24 reasons I *hate* Daylight Savings Time
Things aren't so bad. This is only the beginning. 1 down, just a few more to go.
Wait a minute! Did the watch just change color?!
It did! The watch did change color!
Oh shit ... what does it mean now that I'm seeing orange?
Not only am I seeing orange, but the watch is again changing shapes! DAMN YOU SHAPE SHIFTING WATCH!
It's too much. This is now the "Being John Malkovich" of watch time-setting-back sessions!
Blue, such a calming color.
Wait?! Are those blue dots!? Am I seeing dots now?! Oh no!
I guess it was just an aquamarine dream.
WHAT'S WITH THE GREEN SWIRLY THINGIES! TEH WATCHES ARE TEH SUCK!
They've now changed to RED SWIRLY THINGIES! I AM DOOMED! (Editor's note: I kept this watch because it had different colored swirly thingies)
Phewwwwww ... blue is calming.
But now the silver beast has come to take my soul!
DIALS AND GAUGES! WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN!
Orange again ... terror is surely near!
The numbers are so huge! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
It's the silver bullet baby.
THE RED! NO ... MORE ... RED!
Nothing can save me now.
I am done for ... I cannot escape the RED!
HOLY SHIT! THERE ARE PEOPLE IN MY WATCH! THEY'RE TRAPPED IN THERE WITH ALL THAT TIME ... AND STUFF! I can't save you! You're on your own time people!
Green ... maybe I'm about to be sick
But wait ... HA HA! Surely Mickey Mouse can save me ... right?!
BUT HE CANNOT SAVE ME FROM THE TWO DIALED BEAST. OH ... THE HUMANITY!
